Getting into a hybrid Corolla Cross just got more expensive. Toyota has dropped the Hybrid S grade from the 2027 lineup, leaving the SE and XSE, the company said Oct. 2. The Hybrid SE now opens the range at $31,415, which is $2,020 more than the $29,395 Hybrid S listed on Toyota's February 2026 price sheet. Neither figure includes destination.

Otherwise the small SUV carries over. Toyota says features and specifications are unchanged from 2026. Gas models keep the 169-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder with front- or all-wheel drive, and the hybrid keeps its 196 total system horsepower, standard electronic on-demand all-wheel drive and a manufacturer-estimated 42 mpg combined. The Corolla Cross is assembled in Huntsville, Alabama, and 2027 models are due at dealers this fall.

What the $31,415 Hybrid SE includes

The new entry hybrid is reasonably equipped. Toyota lists 17-inch machine-finished alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, Qi wireless charging, four USB-C ports, single-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, paddle shifters and the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite, which includes full-speed adaptive cruise control and Lane Tracing Assist. Options on the SE include a package with a 10.5-inch touchscreen, a moonroof package and a cold-weather package that adds a heated steering wheel and heated front seats.

The $34,130 Hybrid XSE adds 18-inch black wheels, the 10.5-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, SofTex-trimmed seats, dual-zone climate control and ambient lighting.

The hybrid is now closer to a RAV4 Hybrid

The bigger change is where the Corolla Cross Hybrid now sits in Toyota's showroom. On the same Oct. 2 price list, the current 2026 RAV4 Hybrid LE starts at $31,900 with front-wheel drive and $33,300 with all-wheel drive, and both SUVs carry the same $1,595 destination charge. That leaves the cheapest Corolla Cross Hybrid just $485 below the cheapest RAV4 Hybrid and $1,885 below the least expensive all-wheel-drive RAV4 Hybrid.

The premium for choosing the hybrid over a gas Corolla Cross has also grown. The Hybrid SE costs $4,580 more than a gas L with all-wheel drive; for 2026 the gap between the L AWD and the Hybrid S was $3,060.

Hybrids were already a small and shrinking part of Corolla Cross sales. Toyota's September report shows 90,131 Corolla Cross models sold in the first nine months of 2026, up 22.9%, but only 13,905 of them were hybrids, down 43.5% from 24,594 a year earlier. Toyota did not give a reason for dropping the S grade in its announcement.

What shoppers should do now

Including destination, the least expensive 2027 Corolla Cross lists at $27,130 and the least expensive hybrid at $33,010. Buyers set on a hybrid at the lower price should look for remaining 2026 Hybrid S models before 2027 stock arrives, and compare the actual window sticker rather than February list prices. Shoppers who mainly want hybrid mileage and all-wheel drive for less could also look at the 2027 Corolla Hybrid LE AWD sedan, which Toyota lists at $26,575 plus a $1,295 destination charge, with the obvious trade-off in cargo space and ride height.
