General Motors is recalling 29,347 Cadillac Optiq electric SUVs because the front windows may fail to detect an obstruction and reverse when they are closed with the key fob's express-up function. The recall, NHTSA campaign 26V612 (GM number N262567230), covers 2025, 2026 and 2027 Optiq models. GM reported it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on September 24, 2026.
The defect is a failure of the window's anti-pinch behavior. NHTSA says the vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 118, which governs power-operated window systems. The agency's description of the risk is direct: a closing window that does not reverse as expected can pinch a passenger before retracting, increasing the risk of injury.
When the problem shows up
The problem is specific to one method of closing the windows. The recall record says nothing about how the switches inside the car behave. According to NHTSA's summary, it occurs when the front windows are closed using the key fob's express-up function. Express-up is the one-touch feature that closes a window all the way without the driver holding the control.
That distinction matters for how owners handle the risk until the fix. Fob-closing is often used from outside the vehicle, for instance to shut the windows after parking, and a child's hand or a pet's head near an open window is exactly the situation where a failed reversal would hurt. Until your Optiq is updated, avoid using the fob to close the windows when anyone could be near them. This advice is Drive Edition's, not NHTSA's or GM's.
The fix is software
GM will update the body control module software, free of charge. The update can be installed by a dealer or sent over the air, which means some owners may be able to avoid a service visit altogether. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on November 9, 2026. Vehicle identification numbers became searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 24, the day GM reported the recall, so you do not need to wait for the letter to find out whether your Optiq is covered.

Federal rules require this kind of window to stop and reverse when it meets resistance, so that a hand or arm is not trapped. Owners with questions can contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 and give GM's recall number, N262567230.
