Ford Motor Company is recalling 41,748 vehicles because the headlight assemblies may contain a contaminated LED chip, which can cause a loss of daytime running lights, parking lights, high beams or low beams. The recall, NHTSA campaign 26V606 (Ford's number 26C43), covers 2025 through 2027 Ford Expedition SUVs and 2026 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty pickups and chassis cabs. Ford reported it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on September 22, 2026.

The failure is a compliance problem as well as a safety one. NHTSA says the affected vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, which covers lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment. The agency's stated consequence is plain: a loss of exterior lighting can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

NHTSA lists 41,748 vehicles as potentially affected, but not every Expedition or Super Duty is part of the recall. The agency's summary says "certain" vehicles, so the only reliable check is your 17-character VIN. Ford has not made VINs searchable yet. NHTSA says they will appear on NHTSA.gov beginning October 26, 2026.

What Ford will do

Dealers will inspect the headlight assemblies and replace them as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on October 26, 2026. In the meantime, owners can reach Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and quote recall number 26C43.

If you own one of these trucks or SUVs and a headlight, high beam or daytime running light has gone dark, do not wait for the letter. Call a Ford dealer and mention the recall. Driving at night with a headlight out is a safety issue regardless of the paperwork.

A separate Ford recall, filed the same day

Ford filed a second recall with NHTSA on September 22 that affects a different model. Campaign 26V605 (Ford 26C42) covers 11,405 model-year 2026 Ranger pickups with the 10.1-inch center screen. The screen may lose power and fail to show the rearview camera image, which violates the rear visibility standard, FMVSS 111. Ford's remedy is still under development. Interim letters telling owners about the risk were expected to be mailed October 5, with further letters to follow when a fix is ready, and the VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 25.

To see whether any Ford you own has an open recall, enter the VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls. It takes about a minute and works for any model year. The lookup covers every open recall on the vehicle, not only this one, and it is worth running before you buy a used truck or SUV as well.
