Tesla will report third-quarter results after the stock market closes on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and take questions on a webcast at 5:30 p.m. Eastern, the company said in an Oct. 2 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. It will be the first look at Tesla's books since a second quarter in which revenue set a record but operating profit fell 57% and the company burned cash.

Analysts surveyed by Zacks expected adjusted earnings of 43 cents a share on revenue of $27.79 billion as of Oct. 16, and Zacks said that profit estimate had been cut 9.4% over the previous 30 days. MarketBeat's consensus is a little higher, at about 45 cents on $27.94 billion. A year earlier, Tesla earned 50 cents a share on an adjusted basis on revenue of $28.1 billion.
