Lexus is shifting the NX compact crossover to a fully electrified lineup for 2027, offering buyers a choice between hybrid electric (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) powertrains. The new NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid model features a manufacturer-estimated 45 miles of all-electric range and standard DC fast charging capability, marking a significant upgrade for shoppers seeking a more efficient luxury compact SUV.

The 2027 NX simplifies its trim levels to four grades—Premium, Premium+, F SPORT, and Luxury—each available with either the NX 350h hybrid or the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid powertrain. Lexus has enhanced the driving experience with updates to suspension, steering, braking, and chassis rigidity, aiming for sharper handling and improved ride comfort.

Sharper Design and More Comfortable Cabin

The exterior design of the 2027 NX continues Lexus’ “Vital Tech” theme with a sportier and more dynamic look. The grille integrates functional elements like headlamps and cornering lamps into a cohesive mesh design that improves aerodynamics and cooling. New exterior color options include Shaded Ivy, a subtle ash green, and Incognito, a sharp tone exclusive to the F SPORT grade. Black accents replace chrome on mirrors and moldings, contributing to a more sculpted and athletic stance.

Inside, the cabin is more spacious and refined, featuring a horizontally aligned 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 14-inch touchscreen display standard on all trims. The interior lighting and ambient illumination create a relaxing atmosphere, enhanced further on Luxury and F SPORT trims by the Sensory Concierge system, which personalizes lighting, sound, and fragrance. Five interior color options are available, including the new Abalos tone inspired by Martian sand dunes and the F SPORT-exclusive Radiant Red.

Advanced Hybrid Powertrains and Driving Dynamics

The 2027 NX 350h hybrid uses a new generation hybrid system with a 160-hp front motor and a 54-hp rear motor on all-wheel-drive models, producing a combined 244 hp—4 hp more than the previous model. The 2.5-liter gas engine delivers 186 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid upgrades the front motor to 203 hp, with the rear motor unchanged at 54 hp, resulting in a total system output of 324 hp, up from 304 hp in 2026.

The plug-in hybrid’s lithium-ion battery has been redesigned with an 8% increase in output and capacity, enabling the estimated 45-mile all-electric range. Charging improvements include standard DC fast charging with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in about 35 minutes using a 50-kW DC charger. AC charging from 10% to 100% on a 240V charger takes approximately 2.5 hours.

Lexus also enhanced the NX’s driving dynamics by increasing body rigidity with new floor cross members and suspension tower reinforcements. The E-Four electronic all-wheel-drive system is standard on all NX 450h+ models and available on select NX 350h trims, providing continuous AWD operation for better stability and traction.
