Honda is laying the groundwork for a new U.S. assembly plant, and it would build hybrids. An application filed with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency on Oct. 7 describes a roughly 300-acre factory in Union County, northwest of Columbus, that would build hybrid Honda and Acura vehicles and employ about 3,000 people. Local outlets Marysville Matters and NBC4 Columbus reported the filing.

"Honda proposes to construct a new manufacturing facility to maintain vehicle supply in North America," the application says, according to Marysville Matters. It adds that the facility "will be approximately 300 acres and manufacture hybrid Honda and Acura vehicles." The filing, submitted by Honda Development & Manufacturing of America under the name Project Sunrise, says construction could begin in January 2027 and wrap up by December 2029.
