Wholesale used-vehicle prices in the U.S. Rose 2% in October 2026 compared to the same month last year, according to the Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index (MUVVI). This marks a slight 0.5% increase from September and reflects a stronger market than the long-term average October increase of 0.3%.

The steady price gains come despite October typically being the weakest month for used vehicle values. Elevated gas prices have helped electric vehicles (EVs) maintain higher values year over year, even with more off-lease EVs entering the market. Meanwhile, light-duty trucks saw a notable 4.3% decline in wholesale prices year over year.

What’s driving used vehicle prices?

EVs showed the strongest price performance, with their index up 6.6% year over year, though down slightly by 0.9% from September. Non-EV vehicles also increased 1.1% year over year and 0.4% month over month. Compact cars remain a bright spot, offsetting declines in luxury vehicles, pickups, and SUVs.

Wholesale supply remained stable with days’ supply at 28.1 days, nearly unchanged from last year and slightly down from September. Retail used vehicle inventory also held steady, with days’ supply just under 50 days, matching the long-term average for this time of year.

What it means for buyers and sellers

Used vehicle depreciation in October was close to normal seasonal levels, with the Manheim index holding 2% higher than the depressed values seen last October. Sales conversion rates were steady at 54.2%, slightly below the three-year average for October but indicating healthy demand.

For buyers, the relative strength in EV and compact car values suggests these segments remain popular and retain value well. Sellers may find better pricing opportunities in EVs and compact cars, while trucks and luxury vehicles continue to face downward pressure.
